Booker hires four top-tier operatives for presidential campaign

New Jersey native Julie McClain Downey has been tapped as the director of state communications Cory Booker’s presidential campaign, one of four top-level press shop hires the campaign announced this morning.

She held the same post four years ago on Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

McClain Downey, who grew up in North Caldwell, previously served as senior director of campaign communications for EMILY’s List, as communications director for the New Hampshire Democratic Party, as press secretary for U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) and as deputy press secretary for a U.S. Senate campaign in Nevada in 2012.

Her husband, former New Jersey Democratic State Committee executive director Sean Downey, is also working on the Booker campaign.

Booker has added another New Hampshire veteran to his state campaign team.

Chris Moyer, who served as communications director for 2018 New Hampshire Democratic gubernatorial candidate Molly Kelly, will be the New Hampshire communications director.  He is a New Hampshire native who worked for Clinton in Ohio and for U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Sabrina Singh will be Booker’s national press secretary. She has worked for the Clinton campaign, the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and as communications director for Katie McGinty’s Senate race in Pennsylvania.

Booker has picked Vanessa Valdivia as his Nevada communications director and as deputy national press secretary for Spanish language media.  She was communications director for U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-New Mexico) and is also a Clinton ’16 veteran.
