A second gentleman who grew up in Matawan has picked a former New Jersey political operative as his communications director.
Liza Acevedo began working the husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, Doug Emhoff, in August, NBC News reported today.
She worked as deputy press secretary to Gov. Phil Murphy from January 2018 until September of that year when she became a spokesperson for Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin.
Acevedo left that post after less than one year to become deputy national press secretary for Julián Castro’s campaign for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. That move came after Murphy, Coughlin and nearly every other New Jersey Democratic elected official endorsed favorite son Cory Booker.
After Castro’s campaign folded five months later, Acevedo joined SKDK, a Washington public affairs firm. She spent fourteen months there before becoming deputy press secretary at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security last April.
