Mark Angelson, the vice chairman of the Rutgers University Board of Governors slated to become chairman in July, was named on Tuesday to serve as the new U.S. Ambassador to Norway.
President Joe Biden’s selection of Angelson, a former Chicago deputy mayor and businessman, means a possible vacant seat on the top Rutgers board. Gov. Phil Murphy nominated Angelson, who was confirmed by the Senate in 2021.
Angelson is the vice chair of the Biden Foundation. He previously led the Rutgers Board of Governors in 2019 and 2020.
The White House submitted a notice of intent to nominate Angelson to the U.S. Senate and has a narrow window to get him confirmed before the Senate begins its election year summer and fall break. Should Republican Donald Trump win the presidency, Angelson’s stay in Oslo could be short.
If confirmed, Angelson would replace Marc Nathanson, the founder of Falcon Cable.
Angelson is a 1972 graduate of Rutgers and earned his law degree there in 1975.
