West New York clerk to issue ruling today

A decision regarding a closed hearing meant to address a challenge to petitions filed by Commissioner Cosmo Cirillo will come later in the day than initially expected.

Town Clerk Carmela Riccie, who originally expected the proceeding to conclude quickly, said the hearing went far longer than she expected.

A decision was originally due immediately after the conclusion of the hearing, which was scheduled to last until 1 p.m., at latest.

West New York Democratic Municipal Chairman Jonathan Castañeda, who is accused of circulating petitions without a candidate’s name attached and misleading signers about what race the petitions were for, did not personally attend the hearing, nor did Castañeda, who is currently Mayor Felix Roque’s chief of staff, attend work Wednesday. .
