Rhonda Wardlow-Hurley won a special election convention on Saturday to serve as a Camden county commissioner, replacing Melinda Kane (D-Cherry Hill), who resigned to take her seat in the New Jersey State Assembly.
Wardlow-Hurley is the Lawnside Democratic municipal chair and a former councilwoman. She will serve until the winner of a November 2025 special election is certified. It’s not immediately clear if she will seek Kane’s unexpired term.
Kane resigned earlier this month after being elected to replace Pamela Lampitt (D-Cherry Hill), who resigned from the legislature in January to take office as the new Camden County Clerk.
Two incumbent county commissioners, Edward McDonnell and Virginia Betteridge, are up for re-election this year.
McDonnell was first elected in 1996 and is the third longest-serving county commissioner in the state, behind Jeff Nash (Camden) and Pat Sebold (Essex). Betteridge was picked by Democrats 2022 after the secret resignation of Carmen Rodriguez.
