Former Assemblyman Thomas Duch will replace Julien X. Neals as Bergen County Administrator and County Counsel, County Executive James Tedesco said today.
The U.S. Senate confirmed President Joe Biden’s nomination of Neals as a U.S. District Court Judge on Tuesday.
Duch, 64, is the Garfield City Manager and is a former mayor. He won an Assembly seat in 1987, flipping the 36th district two years after Republicans won two seats. Duch was a victim of redistricting in 1991 when Garfield was oved to the next-door 38th district.
Now a resident of Wyckoff, Duch challenged State Sen. Kristin Corrado (R-Totowa) in the 40th district in 2017 but lost by a 56%-44% margin.
“On behalf of my entire administration I am excited to welcome Thomas Duch as our new County Administrator and County Counsel,” Tedesco said. “Tom brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the County of Bergen and with his steady leadership, we will continue to move Bergen County forward.”
