Six running for three seats on Hackensack BOE

By Nikita Biryukov, March 04 2020 10:50 am

Six candidates across two slates will vie for three seats on Hackensack’s board of education.

Michael Oates, Anthony Rodriguez and Christopher Coleman are running on the Hackensack Smart Schools slate.

They’re running with the tagline of “three dads.”

“The biggest thing to know about our Three Dads is that we all have children who attend city schools and we really care about every child’s future,” Rodriguez said. “Others may rely on administrators to tell them what’s going on. We talk to our kids and their teachers. We are not politicians, we are parents and that’s why we are running.”

They face Jennifer Maury, Monica Pelaez and David Dungey of the Champions for Students slate.

Hackensack Mayor John Labrosse is staying out of the race so far, though it’s possible that will change as the election draws nearer.

Election day for the three spots on the nine-member board is April 21.

Incumbent School Board members Robin Cole, Johana Calle and Leila Amirhamzeh are not seeking re-election.
