Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) has endorsed Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty for re-election to a fourth term.
Dougherty faces a challenge in the June 8 Democratic primary from Esperanza Porras-Field, a perennial candidate who is loosely backed by a local police union fighting with the mayor.
“Confronted with the unprecedented challenges of the coronavirus pandemic, Mayor Dougherty was steadfast in his leadership of Morristown in a moment when his residents needed him most,” Sherrill said. “I am proud to endorse his candidacy for reelection and look forward to continuing to work with him to deliver for the people of Morristown. Plenty of work lies ahead, but Mayor Dougherty has proven he’s ready for the challenges ahead and will always put Morristown first.”
Gov. Phil Murphy and U.S. Senator Cory Booker have also endorsed Dougherty for re-election.
