Burke likely re-elected, but Salem freeholder race too close to call

By Nikita Biryukov, November 03 2020 11:22 pm

Salem County Surrogate Nicki Burke has likely defeated Republican challenger Beth McCarthy Patrick, but the freeholder race here is too close to call.

Burke leads McCarthy Patrick 13,551 to 11,957.

Democratic Freeholder Charles Hassler narrowly leads Republican Edward Ramsey 12,987 votes to 12,602 votes.

If the Republican wins, his party will have a 4-1 majority there.

The county has consistently flipped between backing Democrats and Republicans in national and congressional races, and though it backed Republicans in the last two national cycles, voters there elected one Democrat and one Republican to the freeholder board last year.
