Salem County Democrats picked former freeholder Beth Timberman as their candidate for county clerk, setting up a general contest against one of her former colleagues.
Timberman will face Dale Cross, who served with her on the Salem County Board of Freeholders for seven years.
The incumbent, 83-year-old Republican Gilda Gill, is retiring after 20 years as county clerk.
Democrats picked Alloway township committeeman Warren Morgan III to run for freeholder on a ticket with 19-year incumbent Lee Ware.
To flip control of the freeholder board back to the Democrats, both Ware and Morgan must win.
GOP freeholder Scott Griscom is seeking re-election. Salem Republicans held their convention today, but still don’t have a second freeholder candidate to take on Ware. They are expected to before the April 1 filing deadline.
Salem Democrats also backed Assemblymen John Burzichelli (D-Paulsboro) and Adam Taliaferro (D-Woolwich) for re-election in the 3rd district.
No Democrats faced opposition at today’s party convention.
