Salem County Republicans today picked former freeholder Dale Cross to run for county clerk on a ticket with incumbent freeholder Scott Griscom.

Republicans are still considering candidates for the second freeholder seat and are expected to do so before the April 1 filing deadline.

Cross, who served as a freeholder from 2009 to 2017, is expected to face Democrat Beth Timberman, a former four-term freeholder, in the race to succeed Republican Gilda Gill.

Gill, 83, announced in January that she would not seek re-election to a fifth term as county clerk.

Salem Democrats hold their convention later today.  Lee Ware, a freeholder since 2001, is expected to be joined on the ticket by Alloway township committeeman Warren Morgan III.
