Republicans will likely hold West Caldwell council seats

By Nikita Biryukov, November 04 2020 12:05 am

Republican council incumbents in West Caldwell will likely defeat Democratic challengers and maintain their 5-0 majority there, the New Jersey Globe projects.

Councilman Michael Docteroff and Councilwoman Kathy Canale will defeat Democratic challengers Jessica Almeida and Christy Lazarow.

Canale is in first with 3,452 votes. Docteroff is in second with 3,430. Alemida has 2,649 votes, while Lazarow has 2,580.

Despite the loss, the fact the election featured Democratic candidates is a step forward for the party.

Lazarow and Almeida’s primary write-in campaign made them the first Democratic candidates West Caldwell had seen in years.
