Former Galloway Mayor Donald Purdy was elected Atlantic County Republican Chairman tonight, winning a special election after 16-year incumbent Keith Davis stepped down.

WPG radio personality Harry Hurley reported that Purdy won by acclamation.

”Keith has been a great working partner and I both thank and congratulate him on his 16 highly successful years as our Chairman,” Hurley reported Purdy as saying.

Davis announced earlier this month that he would step down to help lead a new super PAC aimed at helping to elect more South Jersey Republicans.

Purdy, a close ally of newly-elected State Sen. Vince Polistina (R-Egg Harbor Township), has been preparing to challenge Davis when the incumbent announced his departure.

GOP Vice Chair Rosalie Baker served as acting chair for the last three days.
