Powerful Middlesex County Democratic Chairman easily wins another term

Middlesex County Democratic Chairman Kevin McCabe was easily re-elected tonight, defeating Charlie Kratovil in his bid to keep the post he’s held since 2013 as head of one of the state’s most powerful county organizations.

Vice chair Beatrice Moskowitz was re-elected without opposition.  Kratovil, a former New Brunswick mayoral candidate, had challenged Moskowitz in 2019 and lost be a wide margin.

The vote totals were not released.  The meeting was held virtually since government regulations prohibit large gatherings as a way of slowing the spread of the coronavirus.

U.S. Senator Cory Booker and Reps. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-Long Branch) and Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Ewing) spoke to Democratic county committee members.

McCabe has emerged as one of the state’s most influential Democrats, with Middlesex at its most commanding point since the John Lynch era ended more than fifteen years ago.
