Point Pleasant Beach Councilman Paul Kanitra has ousted Mayor Stephen Reid, scoring a 20-point win in the Ocean County Town.

Kanitra defeated the mayor 624-419.

Running for re-election wasn’t Reid’s first choice.

He made a bid for retiring Assemblyman David Wolfe’s seat.

Reid, who runs New Jersey Responsible Approaches to Marijuana Policy, the state’s top anti-pot group, dropped his Assembly bid after the Ocean County Steering Committee backed Brick Republican Club president John Catalano for the seat.

Reid later endorsed Catalano.
