Avalon Councilwoman Barbara Juzaitis and newcomer Samuel Wierman have overwhelmingly defeated their lone opponent, James Lutz, the owner of a local fishing supply store.
According to unofficial election results, Juzaitis received 262 votes, about 40%, and Wierman had 269 ballots, roughly 41%, cast in his favor.
Lutz received just 117 votes. That’s about 18% of the total votes cast.
Juzaitis was appointed to the council last year after now-former Councilman Dick Dean resigned for health reasons.
Wierman, a member of Avalon’s zoning and planning boards, was running for the seat left open by Councilman Charles Covington’s retirement.
Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi ran unopposed.
