Judge admonished for ethics violation about to take Paterson post

By David Wildstein, May 31 2019 5:03 pm

Xavier Rodriguez, who became the city of Passaic’s first Latino judge in 2001, will be sworn in on Monday as the new Paterson municipal court judge.

He was appointed to the post by Mayor Andre Sayegh.

Rodriguez returns to the bench after being admonished by the New Jersey Supreme Court nine years ago for being present at the home of Mayor Sammy Rivera the day the he was arrested on federal corruption charges.  A photographer for the Herald News snapped a shot of the judge in 2007.

In a presentment made by the Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct, Rodriguez was accused of engaging in political activity as a municipal court judge and violating the judicial code of conduct “which requires judge to observe high standards.”

The (Bergen) Record first reported this month that Rodriguez, who lost his Passaic judgeship last year, would be named to the Paterson post.
