Phil Yetter, one of the longest-serving elected officials in New Jersey history, has won a contested Republican primary for another term on the Hampton Borough Council.
Yetter, 84, and another incumbent, David Hansen, have fought off a challenge from political newcomer Robert Siejowski.
Hansen leads with 377 votes, followed by Yetter with 355 votes. Siejowski has 156 votes.
A farmer, Yetter was first elected in 1978. He served as mayor for over 30 years. If he wins re-election in November, he’ll begin his 49th year in local government.
Hampton is a solidly Republican town; Donald Trump carried it by over 30 points in 2024.
Democrat Ken Druse ran unopposed for the Democratic nomination.
