Ex-councilman running off the line has narrow lead over 4-term incumbent

Incumbent Domenick Stampone trails Michael Johnson by 13 votes, 271-258 in the Democratic primary for mayor of Haledon.

Stampone has been mayor for sixteen years.  Johnson, a former councilman, mounted an off-the-line bid against Stampone.

It’s not clear how many provisional ballots were cast or how many late arriving vote-by-mail ballots are to be counted.

The Republican nominee will be Kenneth Pentigore, who was the mayor before Stampone unseated him in 2006.

In Prospect Park, Mayor Mohamed Khairullah won the Democratic primary with 65% of the vote against challenger Andre Greer.    He will face Republican Maria Emma Anderson.
