Democratic Mayor Vincent Giovannitti won another term in Greenwich Township, defeating Republican challenger Steve Kush and retaining the mayor’s office for the Democratic Party.
Giovannitti leads with 1,493 votes to Kush’s 624 votes.
Kush, a veteran political consultant, architected a Republican wave in Gloucester County in 2021 when an unknown Republican, Ed Durr, ousted Senate President Steve Sweeney.
Giovannitti’s victory preserves the Democrats’ hold on the mayoralty, although Republicans remain competitive in a township that has favored the GOP in recent statewide elections.
The Township Council currently has a 3-1 Democratic majority, with Democrats Lee Campbell, Antonio Chila and Lani Cole holding three seats and Republican Wanda Tranquillo holding the remaining seat. The mayor is elected separately and is not included in the council’s partisan breakdown.
Giovannitti previously defeated Republican Carmen Zampaglione in 2023, establishing himself as a successful local Democratic candidate despite the township’s Republican-leaning electorate.
Donald Trump carried Greenwich by 18 percentage points in 2024, while Jack Ciattarelli won it by 10 points in 2025.
The result keeps the mayor’s office in Democratic hands without changing the Township Council’s existing partisan balance.
