Ex-mayor’s daughter will run with McGreevey in Jersey City

The daughter of former Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy will run for Jersey City Council in Ward D on a slate headed by mayoral candidate James E. McGreevey, the former governor of New Jersey.

Catherine Healy is the deputy director of the Hudson County Department of Family Services and Reintegration, where she is the chief labor and employment counsel and manages the child support and paternity program.   She is a former assistant Hudson County prosecutor and operates a pro bono criminal defense law firm.

“I’ve spent my career standing up for working families, fighting for fairness, and making sure government works for the people it’s supposed to serve. Jersey City shaped who I am—from growing up in the Heights to raising my own children here—and I’m running for city council to give back to the community that has given me so much. We need leadership that listens, leads with integrity, and delivers real results for Ward D.”

Her father was elected mayor three times before losing re-election to Steve Fulop in 2013.

McGreevey said the Healy family represents the “gold standard” in public service for Jersey City.

“Catherine Healy’s experience in labor law, social services, and public safety makes her a critical force for good,” McGreevey said. “Catherine and her family’s commitment to fairness, working families, and fiscal responsibility is precisely the kind of leadership we need on the City Council.”

The Ward D incumbent, Yousef Salah, is not seeking re-election and instead is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for State Assembly in the 32nd district on a slate with Fulop and incumbent Jessica Ramirez (D-Jersey City).

Healy will have the support of Hudson County Executive Craig Guy.

“Catherine is a hard-working, dedicated professional who puts the people of Jersey City and Hudson County first,” he said.  “Her legal expertise helps our most vulnerable residents receive critically needed support.”
