Essex County Clerk Christopher Durkin won a landslide re-election to a fifth five-year term, defeating Republican Maritza Matthews, 78%-22%, a margin of roughly 117,000 votes.

At the end of his next term, Durkin will tie Nicholas V. Caputo as the longest-serving county clerk in Essex history.

The son of the legendary Raymond Durkin, who served as Essex County Democratic Chairman and New Jersey Democratic State Chairman before his death in 2014.
