Hudson county chair says no lines for president is their ‘Plan A’

Hudson County Democrats are willing to go along with U.S. Senator Bob Menendez’s proposal to run an open presidential primary without organization lines, county chair Amy DeGise says.

“Hudson is exploring that as our Plan A,” DeGise told the New Jersey Globe.  “That would be ideal.  I think Senator Menendez has the right idea, like he always does.”

DeGise said that she hopes all the presidential candidates will agree to the plan, cautioning that Hudson Democrats might see things differently if one White House aspirant decides to run their own line of candidates.

“We don’t want our voters to be thrown off,” she said, noting that Hudson County Clerk Junior Maldonado has already begun looking at different ballot design options.

DeGise says the main objective of Democrats is defeating Donald Trump and that an open primary will allow any presidential candidates still in the race by the New Jersey primary to focus entirely on organizing voters.
