The Communications Workers of America will endorse a slate of candidates in West New York headed by commissioner Gabriel Rodriguez, the New Jersey Globe has learned.
The CWA is expected to announce their endorsement tomorrow. The move is expected to provide Rodriguez and his “New Beginnings West New York” ticket with additional foot soldiers as they head into the final week of their campaign to oust two-term mayor Felix Roque.
Incumbents Cosmo Cirillo and Margarita Guzman are running with Rodriguez, along with former school trustee Victor Barrera and Yoleisy Yanez, a local middle school teacher. The three incumbents had run on Roque’s ticket four years ago.
Rodriguez, the business accounting manager for the West New York Board of Education, is a close political ally and former aide to Rep. Albio Sires (D-West New York). Sires is heavily invested in the local election.
