West New York Mayor Felix Roque lost his re-election bid for a third term to Gabriel Rodriguez, one of the towns commissioners.
Rodriguez won the election with 57% of the vote, with a 14% margin of victory over Mayor Roque who lost his bid with only 43% of the vote, down 14.9% from his 2015 re-election over Count Wiley.
Rodriguez won all but one of the voting districts, only losing Ward 2’s 4th District by 1 vote, or 0.6% of the districts vote. Rodriguez had his strongest performance in the 3rd ward of the city, winning the vote there by nearly 30%.
This ward has not been favorable to Roque in the past, with it being the best performing area in the city for Count Wiley in 2015, who only lost it by 9.26%.
Meanwhile in Wards 1 and 2, Roque lost to Rodriguez by 17.5% and 20.5% respectively. At the same time, the largest shifts away from Roque occurred in the 2nd Ward, which shifted -8.8 against Roque from his 2015 performance.
