Clark mayor also out as GOP municipal chairman

Sal Bonaccorso agreed to a lifetime ban on any office

Former Clark Mayor Sal Bonaccorso, who forfeited his office as part of a plea agreement on forgery and conspiracy charges earlier today, is also out as the Republican municipal chairman.

After admitting his guilt in court today, Union County Assignment Judge Lisa Miralles Walsh ordered Bonaccorso to be “forever disqualified” from holding any public office.

That means Bonaccorso won’t be formally involved in any decision on what three names the Clark GOP county committee submits to the council as his replacement.

The municipal vice chair, Edward Bogash, is expected to serve as acting chairman until the county committee holds a new election.

The leading candidate to replace Bonaccorso is Council President Angel Albanese.  If she is picked, the county committee will pick three more names for the council to consider as her at-large replacement.

Clark voters will see special primary and general elections this year to fill the remaining 37 months of Bonaccorso’s term.
