Bound Brook Councilman Shawn Guera defeated GOP challenger Mark Speed,  698 to 697.  Speed had a two-vote lead until the counting of provisional ballots.

Another Republican, Glen Rossi, flipped a council seat; he was the top vote-getter with 723 votes.  Democratic incumbent Abel Gomez has 686 votes.

In the race for mayor, Democrat Dominick Longo defeated Republican incumbent David Morris by 82 votes, 750 to 668.  Morris had become mayor last year following the resignation of Bob Fazen.

In the race for two Bernards Township Committee seats, Republican Township Committeeman Gary Bauman scored a seven-vote victory over Democrat Puiwan Lily Wong, 4,000 to 3,993.

Republicans went into the election with a 5-0 majority.
