ELEC files complaint against Walsh

The New Jersey Law Enforcement Commission filed a complaint late last month against Bernadette Walsh over a number of alleged campaign finance violations in the former candidate’s 2014 campaign for a Bergen County freeholder seat.

Among the 12 counts ELEC levelled against Walsh are claims that the candidate and her then-treasurer,  Kathleen Jordan, failed to include addresses for certain campaign contributions and expenditures, as is required by law, filed several reports late, never filed others and failed to report certain expenditures.

Though Walsh and her Republican running mate, Roberty Avery, were beat out by the county’s Democratic incumbents, the fines associated with the alleged violations could prove a very big thorn in Walsh’s side.

Each violation carries a fine of up to $7,600.
