The Bergen County Republican Committee began voting to pick a candidate to run for former Sheriff Michael Saudino’s vacant seat at about 6:40 p.m., a source told the New Jersey Globe.
Running are Midland Park Mayor and Undersheriff Harry Shortway, former Sheriff’s officer Matthew Ryan, retired Sheriff’s officer Lewis Morrell and Hasbrouck Heights Mayor Jack DeLorenzo.
The special convention is closed to the press.
