Atlantic County Democratic Chairman Michael Suleiman wants Gov. Phil Murphy to postpone the Atlantic City change of government referendum scheduled for March 31, and is supporting a June 2 primary election where all votes are cast by mail, eliminating machine ballots as a way of curtailing the spread of coronavirus.
“It is simply not worth the risk to jeopardize the health of so many poll workers in the primary election, most of whom are senior citizens and are the most susceptible to serious respiratory illnesses,” said Suleiman. “An all mail-in voting primary election this June will greatly aid in ‘flattening the curve’ in New Jersey. While it is my hope that this crisis will have subsided come June 2, New Jersey simply cannot take that chance.”
Suleiman wants the state to pick up the cost of mailing ballots, including prepaid postage so voters don’t need a stamp to return their VBM.
