Dan Benson has won the endorsement of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees for his campaign to become the next Mercer County Executive.
“Dan has a phenomenal track-record as an effective advocate on the issues facing union families across New Jersey,” stated Steven Tully, executive director of AFSCME New Jersey.
He also received praise from AFSCME international vice president Debbie Parks and Council 63 president Ron McMullen.
Benson, an assemblyman from Hamilton, seems to have a clear path to become the next Mercer County Executive. The five-term incumbent, Brian Hughes, dropped out of the race earlier this month after winning 22% at the Democratic county convention.
Republicans have not won a countywide election in Mercer in 2023.
“My values have and always will be union values,” said Benson. “All workers deserve a pathway to a good career with strong benefits and the ability to retire with dignity. As the American economy changes, our need for strong unions has only become more clear.”
