The mayor of Trenton, Reed Gusciora, has endorsed Dan Benson for Mercer County Executive, becoming the latest supporter of five-term incumbent Brian Hughes to move toward uniting the party after a contentious Democratic convention.

“I pledge to work with Dan over the next few months to ensure that his campaign is successful, and I look forward to working closely with him on substantive policy initiatives affecting the City of Trenton in 2024,” Gusciora said.  “Dan Benson is squarely the right candidate to move our County forward.”

Gusciora and Benson served in the Assembly together from 2010 to 2018.

“I look forward to resuming our strong working relationship in 2024. In particular, I look forward to working with Dan Benson, as county executive, on initiatives to create a lead-free Trenton, to spur economic revitalization, and to promote transportation equity in the capital city,” the two-term mayor.  “The assemblyman’s strong track record of legislative action is unquestionable.”

Hughes ended his re-election campaign yesterday after losing the convention vote by a 78%-22% margin.

Other Hughes supporters, including Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo (D-Hamilton), Assemblywoman Verlina Jackson-Reynolds (D-Trenton), and Mercer County Clerk Paula Sollami Covello, have also endorsed their support of Benson.
