State Sen. Bob Smith (D-Piscataway) thinks Fabiana Pierre-Louis was a “terrific choice” to replace Associate Justice Walter Timpone.
“I already talked to her, and she’s very impressive,” Smith, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, told the New Jersey Globe. “Great background. She seems to have the right personality for it as well. I think she’s going to be a terrific Supreme Court Justice.”
On Friday, Gov. Phil Murphy announced he would nominate Pierre-Louis to fill Timpone’s seat after the justice reaches the mandatory retirement age of 70 on November 10.
If confirmed, Pierre-Louis, a former federal prosecutor who is now a partner at Montgomery McCracken, would become the first black woman to serve on the state’s high court.
