Senate Republicans call on Democrats to ‘heed the message’ of yesterday’s election

With many ballots still outstanding but Republican legislative candidates clearly outperforming expectations in yesterday’s election, State Senate Republicans today called on Democrats to listen to voters and focus on kitchen table issues.

“While we may not know the results of every election for some time, voters in New Jersey, Virginia, and other places across the country sent a clear message that they are tired of having their concerns dismissed by Democrat leaders who think they know better,” they said in a press release.

Senate Republicans have held a competitive seat in the 2nd legislative district, flipped a seat in the 8th district, and stand a strong chance of winning in the 3rd, 11th, and 16th districts. They also could be on track to gain as many as eight seats in the Assembly.

“After yesterday, it should be clear that whatever mandate Democrats thought they had to govern from the far left no longer exists,” the Senate GOP said. “In its place, voters in New Jersey and elsewhere left a new mandate for all elected officials to get back to basics and start addressing their constituents’ important concerns.”
