New Jersey’s State Senate will return for an in-person voting session amid climbing COVID-19 case counts Monday afternoon.
“We’ve never had a problem voting in-person,” Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-West Deptford) told the New Jersey Globe. “It’s easier to run a meeting in-person than it is by phone. That’s all.”
The move comes as something of an about-face from Senate leadership, which on Nov. 20 announced it would move all of its sessions to a digital setting for the foreseeable future.
New cases of COVID-19 appear to have risen since then, and the Assembly remains on a fully-remote schedule.
Still, Monday’s Senate session may see some changes.
“Members can be in their offices. It’s just going to be a little bit smoother,” Sweeney said.
