Malinowski seeks censure of Alabama GOP congressman

Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes) today introduced a resolution to censure a Republican congressman from Alabama for inciting violence as part of a deadly protest and brief occupation of the U.S. Capitol last week.

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Alabama) urged protestors to “start taking down names and kicking ass” in his remarks to the crowd gathered in Washington on January 6.

Later, Brooks issued a statement saying, “I make no apology for doing my absolute best to inspire patriotic Americans.”

“Representative Brooks knew perfectly well what he was doing — and whom he was inciting — when he encouraged the mob set on storming the Capitol to commit violence on Wednesday,” Malinowski said.  “His actions endangered the lives of his fellow members of Congress, the Vice President, and the police officers who bravely tried to defend the Capitol, and he deserves at the very least the formal condemnation of the House.”

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Florida) is co-sponsoring the censure measure with Malinowski.
