Select Committee will have subpoena power

By Nikita Biryukov, October 24 2018 5:32 pm

The Select Committee investigation into the hiring of Al Alvarez will have subpoena power, Senate President Steve Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin said Wednesday.

“Due to the sensitive nature of the issues, we anticipate everyone called to testify will willingly comply,” the two said in a joint statement. “While we hope there will be no need to invoke the power, we thought it best to reserve the right to issue subpoenas in the unlikely event it is necessary for the committee to take that course of action.”

Each subpoena will have to be approved by the committee co-chairs, Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg and Assemblywoman Eliana Pintor Marin, vice chairs Assemblywoman Nancy Munoz and Sen. Kristin Corrado, Coughlin and Sweeney.
