Senate Majority Leader Teresa Ruiz is the new chair of the eleven-member Legislative Latino Caucus, a post held by State Sen. Nellie Pou.
Pou is resigning from the legislature to take her seat in the U.S. House of Representatives on January 3.
“Over nearly two decades of leadership, our membership has expanded, and with it, our collective voice has grown stronger. Together, we have made lasting strides for Latino families of every background,” said Pou. “I leave these newly elected positions with the utmost confidence in the abilities of Chairwoman Ruiz, Vice Chair Cruz-Perez, and the entire caucus. Stay strong, stay true to your word, and stay true to your beliefs – I have no doubt they will continue to build a stronger, more inclusive New Jersey for Latinos.”
Ruiz praised Pou’s “deep compassion, her collaborative spirit, and her unwavering commitment to our communities.”
“Collectively, we will continue to build upon this legacy and grow our policy agenda and efforts in public service for those in need in New Jersey,” she said.
Legislative Latino Caucus was founded in 1995.
