Cumberland County Democrats tonight endorse Dr. Priscilla Ocasio-Jiménez, a middle school principal from Vineland, as their candidate for county commissioner.

She will replace James Quinn, who is giving up the seat he’s held for six years to return to Millville to run for his old job as city commissioner.

The other incumbent, Joseph Derella, will seek re-election to a fourth term.

Democrats are defending their 6-1 majority on the Board of Commissioners.

In the 1st legislative district, Democrats awarded their organization line to attorney Yolanda Garcia Balicki to challenge freshman State Sen. Michael Testa, Jr. (R-Vineland).

Testa ousted interim State Sen. Bob Andrzejczak (D-Middle) in a 2019 special election for the unexpired term of Jeff Van Drew, who had been elected to Congress.

Garcia Balicki, the wife of former Cumberland County Democratic Chairman Robert Balicki, spent 33 years working for the state Parole Board.

To take on first term Assemblymen Antwan McClellan (R-Ocean City) and Erik Simonsen (R-Upper), Democrats are running Chris Wilson and John Capizola.
