A national political organization that helps fund young progressive candidates has endorsed Roselle Park Mayor Joseph Signorello for the Democratic State Senate nomination in the 21st district.

Run for Something has made a commitment to raise $15,000 for Signorello’s Senate bid.

Signorello faces Eddie Donnelly, the president of the state firefighters union, for the open seat in a Republican district where Democrats have become more competitive in recent years.

The incumbent, Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean, Jr., announced on February 1 that he will not seek re-election.  The likely GOP candidate to replace him is Jon Bramnick, the Assembly Minority Leader.

Since launching his Senate race in January, Signorello says he has already raised $50,000 for his Senate bid.

He said Run for Something helped him mount a successful bid for mayor in 2018.  He ousted a Democratic incumbent in the primary and defeated a sitting GOP councilman in the general election.

“As young people, our time is now, we must fix the glaring problems in our state and take progressive action on the environment, healthcare, and college affordability. But to make these changes, we need to win elections,” Signorello said.  “With Run for Something’s endorsement and financial commitment, I feel confident we will be successful this November.”
