Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez was appointed vice chair of the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators Latino Voting and Elections Task Force Tuesday.
“I am thrilled to have been appointed to this Task Force,” Lopez said. “The Task Force’s work to ensure an accurate and complete 2020 Census as well as fair elections produce benefits for not only the State of New Jersey but the nation as a whole. As the Latino vote continues to grow in strength and with the upcoming 2020 election, my role on this Task Force will be to ensure that the 32 million Latinos registered to vote feel empowered to speak up for their community’s at the polls.”
The task force aims to develop policies supporting comprehensive census efforts and to combat voter suppression and disenfranchisement.
“So many people believe their vote does not matter and this feeling of disconnection is harmful to our democracy,” Lopez said. “Our goal is to inform voters and energize them to become engaged in the political process and to cast their ballot with confidence.”
