LD25 special elections too close to call

Special legislative elections in the 25th district are too close to call.

Democrat Rupande Mehta leads State Sen. Anthony M. Bucco (R-Boonton) by 861 votes for the remainder of late State Sen. Anthony R. Bucco, the incumbent’s father. Democrats last won a Morris County Senate race in 1993.

Darcy Draeger, the Democratic candidate for Bucco’s unexpired Assembly term, leads Assemblywoman Aura Dunn (R-Mendham) by 2,289.

Despite the slim leads, most ballots in Morris remain uncounted. As of 12:13 a.m., officials in Morris had counted 102,992, or 48.48% of the 212,430 mail-in ballots received in the county as of 6 p.m.

Bucco leads in Bernardsville, the lone Somerset municipality in the district, by 135 votes; Dunn is up by 130.

It’s not clear how many mail-in ballots were hand delivered to polling places today, nor is it clear how many provisional ballots were cast at the polls.
