Gov. Phil Murphy issued an executive order delaying February fire district elections, March special school elections and other possible special elections until April 20, 2021, on Monday.
“We will continue to hold elections to ensure that every citizen is able to have their voice heard in a safe matter during this unprecedented time,” Murphy said. “Today’s executive order will allow our local election officials to conserve time and resources, while also providing sufficient time to properly prepare for the upcoming elections.”
The order does not dictate whether such elections will be held entirely through mail-in ballots. That determination, Murphy said, will be made in mid-February.
The order will delay special elections for Wrightstown mayor and a Highland Park council seat slated for January.
