Eight Democratic legislators, including Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, today won the endorsement of the New Jersey Latino Pastors and Ministers Coalition.

The group of 375 pastors and ministers representing 37,500 parishioners in over 330 parishes, across the state is backing the re-election of Assemblywomen Yvonne Lopez (D-Perth Amboy), Annette Quijano (D-Elizabeth), Eliana Pintor Marin (D-Newark), Shanique Speight (D-Newark), and Anjelica Jimenez (D-West York), and Assemblymen Nicholas Chiaravalloti (D-Bayonne) and Pedro Mejia (D-Secaucus).

According to a statement released by the coalition, the endorsements will be announced at the congregations on Sunday.

We support not only those candidates who support our Latino demographics, but also our values: hard work, family and faith, service to the community, investment in our children, and respect for our elders,” the clergy said in a statement.  “Extraordinary commitment to under-served communities marks the legislative record of the leaders we have endorsed.”

All of the endorsed legislators hold safe Democratic seats.

It saddens me to discover that the members of this entity has taken this measure to endorse the one single person placing at risk half a million immigrant refugees living in NJ.

It is a known fact that a bill has been introduced, vetted, and reviewed since December 2018, that would counteract the abuse of power of Trump by issuing a State Driver’s License to these refugeed BUT Coughlin has refused to allow it to be processed through the Judiciary Committee where the chair is Assembly member Quijano.

Furthermore, Coughlin used his power to have two peaceful protesters arrested for simply practicing a “sit-in”, a tactic used by honorable men and women like MLK Jr. He has joined forces with the likes of TRUMP that has placed these refugees on the target list of hate groups around the State of NJ.

Hence, to use the anointing process of the church (or any house of worhip) to bless such a horrible man leaves me no choice but to denounce this action as a member of the NJ Christian community; and I invite others, such as Born Again Christians, Evangelicals, Catholics, Jews, Buddhist and Muslims to do likewise, for to use the santity of a faith organization to endorse such a horrible man is sacrilegious by any measure.

    1. The Democratic Organization are constantly using minorities as trampolines to stay in power. They should all be voted out of office because of their cynical plan to always have minorities at their feet and not give them a permanent solution.
