Former GOP U.S. Senate candidate Bob Hugin will headline a low-dollar fundraiser for Rochelle Park Mayor Michael Kazimir and Paramus Councilman Christopher DiPiazza, the Republican State Assembly candidates in the 38th district.
Hugin has made just a handful of public appearances since spending $36 million of his own money to get 42.8% of the vote last year against U.S. Senator Bob Menendez. He attended the Mercer County Republican Convention in March in support of Trenton GOP Municipal Chair Jennifer Williams, who is seeking a State Assembly seat in the 15th district.
In his Senate race, Hugin on 45% of the vote in the thirteen municipalities that make up the 38th district. Menendez won the 38th by 8,439 votes.
Kazimir and DiPiazza face incumbents Lisa Swain (D-Fair Lawn) and Christopher Tully (D-Bergenfield). Swain and Tully both won 2018 special elections for open Assembly seats and are running for their first full two-year terms.
Tickets to the July 15 Hugin event at The Railyard Tavern in Fair Lawn are being sold for $99-per-person, with discounted $33 tickets available to county committee and Young Republicans. Sponsorships are being sold for $1,000 and $2,000.
