The Evesham Republican Club was not the least bit pleased with Sen. Dawn Addiego’s (D-Evesham) defection to the Democratic Party.
“Despite some of her more questionable votes in recent years, such as voting to raise gas taxes on middle class New Jerseyans, Senator Addiego was re-elected in 2017 to serve a four year term in Trenton as a Republican,” the club said in a statement. “If she no longer believes in fiscal responsibility and competent government, but instead feels more at home with a party that continues to reduce state funding to Evesham’s schools and increase the cost of living for us all, then she will have to live with the consequences of this decision when she faces the voters, who thought they could trust her, in 2021.”
Addiego announced she would be joining Democrats on Monday, citing Senate President Steve Sweeney’s policies as a major reason for the switch.
Officials and operatives on both sides of the aisle have pointed to the increasingly-Democratic eighth legislative district as the reason for her switch.
“Senator Addiego owes a sincere apology to every Evesham voter who supported her with their time, their wallets, and their votes,” the town’s Republican club said. “We look forward working hard to replace her with new leadership who will be loyal to Evesham taxpayers.”
