Assemblywoman faces contested primary without Morris County line

A spate of local Republican officials in Passaic and Essex Counties endorsed Assemblywoman BettyLou DeCroce Friday.

The endorsements from Passaic County come from a slew of current and former elected officials in West Milford. Mayor Michael Dale, Councilmen Michael Chazukow, Kevin Goodsir, Warren Gross and David Marsden endorsed her, as did Councilwomen Ada Erik and Marilyn Lichtenberg.

West Milford Republican Municipal Chairwoman Vivienne Erik and Vice Chairman Mike Hensley also endorsed her, as did Passaic Republican State Committeeman Matthew Conlon and former West Milford Council members Tricia Gerst, Pete McGuinness and Andie Pegel.

“I am thankful for this show of support from Passaic County. They have been great partners in helping me solve problems for their constituents,” the assemblywoman said. “I’m grateful for their confidence in me to continue my hard work on behalf of the Republican Party in Trenton.”

DeCroce faces a contested primary this year. She lost the line in Morris County, where Republican County Committee members have endorsed Assemblyman Jay Webber (R-Morris Plains) and former Pompton Lakes Councilman Christian Barranco.

She is alone on the organization line in Passaic and Essex counties.

Her list of new Essex County endorsements was shorter. Fairfield Mayor James Gasparini and Council members William Galese, Michael McGlynn, John LaForgia and Joseph Cifelli backed her Friday.

“I am thankful for these endorsements from Fairfield. It is with the loyal support of Republicans such as these that I am able to fight and win tough battles in Trenton,” DeCroce said. “I’d like to personally thank these officials for their support.”
