While Democrats bash Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick (R-Westfield) for votes against gun safety, the conservative independent candidates in the race are slamming him for pandering to moderate voters in a mailing that touts his support for some gun control legislation.
“Jon Bramnick has yet again dismissed his conservative constituents by pandering to the Liberals of our legislative district with this desperate political stunt,” said former Scotch Plains Mayor Martin Marks, a Republican running as an independent. “Time after time Bramnick proudly proclaims himself a ‘moderate’ all the while thumbing his nose at the conservative voters he also represents.”
Bramnick received a 100% rating from the National Rifle Association, a distinction that is playing heavily into the campaign strategy of Democrats Lisa Mandelblatt and Stacey Gunderman.
“Jon Bramnick and his running mate Nancy Munoz keep lurching further and further to the Left in a desperate attempt to hold on to their Assembly seats,” said Harry P. Pappas, Marks’ running mate. “This issue of attacking 2nd Amendment rights is the final straw. NJ conservative voters are tired of seeing so-called leaders in the Republican Party allow liberal politicians to run roughshod over our principles and rights.”
As the 21st district becomes more Democratic, Bramnick has moved off some of his longtime positions on guns. Instead, Bramnick touts F grades on individual issues rather than his overall rating.
Munoz received a 93% rating from the NRA.
“We need conservative voices in Trenton that will stand up to that, not encourage it,” Marks said.Jon Bramnick Guns
