Christie’s new book gets little buzz among GOP legislators

New Jersey’s Republican legislators aren’t exactly clamoring to get ahold of former Gov. Chris Christie’s new book, “Let Me Finish: Trump, the Kushners, Bannon, New Jersey, and the Power of In-Your-Face Politics.”

The book, which is billed as an inside look into the workings of President Donald Trump’s campaign, inner circle and mind, has yet to hit shelves and won’t until January, but legislators don’t seem to be awaiting its release with anything but indifference.

“He has a new book?” said Sen. Sam Thompson (R-Old Bridge).  “Don’t know if I’ve heard about it or not.”

Despite praising seven of Christie’s eight years in office, Thompson said he had little interest in such a book, as he had largely lived through the years it would cover.

He also added that he didn’t pick up very many books.

Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll (R-Morris Township) was a bit more emphatic in showing his lack of a desire to delve into another novel by a former New Jersey Governor.

“I sincerely doubt it,” he said when asked if he’d pick up Christie’s book. “I had to read McGreevy’s. That was bad enough. Isn’t that one lifetime’s worth of torture?”

But, even  Carroll’s indifference towards the novel might be born of his tastes.

“I’m not into political books, never have been. Generally speaking, if I want to read fiction, I’ll read whatever Barack Obama is saying today,” Patrick Carroll said. “I still think [Christie]  was the best governor of my lifetime, but that doesn’t mean I want to read his book.”
