Assemblyman Clinton Calabrese (D-Cliffside Park) is the latest Democratic legislator to indicate support of state budget that does not include a millionaire’s tax.
“While I have always supported high earners paying their fair share, I understand that a millionaire’s tax will not be posted for a vote in the Assembly and if posted would have insufficient votes to pass,” said Calabrese. “That’s why I am working with the Speaker and Democratic leadership to produce a responsible budget that meets the needs of our children, the elderly, the most vulnerable, and the working class of New Jersey.
Calabrese’s support of a no-millionaire’s tax budget is contingent on a package that “adequately and appropriately addresses the needs of our residents.”
Yesterday, Calabrese’s 36th district, Gary Schaer (D-Passaic) backed off his endorsement of Gov. Phil Murphy’s millionaire’s tax proposal. That puts Calabrese and Schaer on the same page.
